Kaduna | House of representatives
Hon. Engr. Suleiman Samaila Abdu is a Nigerian engineer and politician from Kaduna State. Born on 3 February 1981 in Kaduna, he is the son of the late Alhaji Abdu Suleiman, a prominent Kaduna politician. He developed an interest in public affairs and political leadership from an early stage and later built a career that combined engineering, public administration and legislative service.
Suleiman received his early education at Kaduna Capital School before proceeding to higher education. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in 2004. He later attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy in 2009.
Before entering politics, Suleiman worked in the energy sector. He began his professional career with the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and later worked with Nigeria LNG and the Energy Commission of Nigeria. His experience in the engineering and energy fields provided him with a professional background before he moved fully into politics.
His political career began at the grassroots level. In 2012, he was elected Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Area under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). His performance at the local government level helped establish his profile in Kaduna politics and paved the way for his move into national legislative politics.
In the 2015 general election, Suleiman was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Kaduna North Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was subsequently re-elected in 2019. During his time in the National Assembly, he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals and participated in legislative activities concerning Nigeria's mineral resources and economic development.
Suleiman also remained involved in constituency representation, with attention to issues affecting the people of Kaduna North. His legislative career covered areas including economic development, natural resources, infrastructure and matters affecting communities within his constituency.
In 2022, Suleiman left the APC and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later contested the Kaduna North Federal Constituency seat under the PDP in the 2023 general election but was not returned to the House. His political career nevertheless remains notable for his progression from local government administration to federal legislative service.
With a background spanning engineering, the energy sector, local government administration and the National Assembly, Hon. Engr. Suleiman Samaila Abdu has established a political career that combines professional experience with grassroots and federal public service.
