Biography of Senator Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani is a Nigerian politician, human-rights activist, author, and social commentator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2015 to 2019. He is widely known for his long-standing involvement in human-rights advocacy, democracy activism, social justice, and public affairs.

Senator Shehu Sani was born on 29 December 1967 in Tudun Wada, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He received his early education in Kaduna before pursuing higher education at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied Political Science. His educational background and early exposure to social and political issues influenced his later involvement in human-rights activism and democratic advocacy.

Before entering elective politics, Shehu Sani was actively involved in the struggle for democracy and the protection of human rights in Nigeria. During the years of military rule, he participated in pro-democracy activities and became associated with campaigns against military dictatorship, political repression, and human-rights violations. His activism led to periods of detention and harassment by government authorities during Nigeria's military era.

Shehu Sani later became involved in several civil-society organizations.
