Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu is a Nigerian lawyer, politician, public administrator, and community leader from Abia State. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the party’s candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Nwogu was born on 18 April 1969 and hails from Ulorgo, Igiri-Ukwu Autonomous Community, Owaza, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State. He trained as a lawyer and has built a public career spanning community leadership, local government administration, state-level public service, and federal development institutions.
His public-service journey began with grassroots leadership. He served in various community and youth organisations, including the Ezengedeulo Village Community Youths Association, the Owaza Youth Development Association, and the Niger Delta Youth Movement. These roles gave him extensive experience working with young people and advocating for community development.
Nwogu later entered local government administration and served as Deputy Chairman and subsequently Transition Committee Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area. During his time in local government, he was involved in programmes relating to employment, education, infrastructure, rural roads, and community development.
He subsequently became Chairman of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC). His tenure at the commission focused on development in oil-producing communities, with projects covering roads, schools, healthcare facilities, markets, town halls, water schemes, electrification, and other infrastructure.
Nwogu also served as Abia State's representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). In that capacity, he was involved in development-related activities concerning the Niger Delta region, particularly projects affecting communities in Abia State.
He later served as Commissioner for Environment in Abia State, adding state-level executive experience to his background. His career has therefore covered several levels of governance, from grassroots community leadership to local government, state government, and federal development institutions.
Beyond government appointments, Nwogu has remained active in politics and community affairs in Ukwa. He has participated in political organisation and grassroots mobilisation and has maintained strong relationships with community leaders and residents across Ukwa East and Ukwa West.
In 2026, Nwogu emerged as the APC candidate for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election. His candidacy marks a return to electoral politics after several years of public service and political leadership.
His campaign has emphasised infrastructure development, youth empowerment, employment opportunities, community development, and stronger federal attention to Ukwa. He has also stressed the importance of effective representation and using his previous experience in public administration to attract development opportunities to the constituency.
Through his career as a lawyer, community leader, local government administrator, commissioner, development-agency administrator, and politician, Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu has established himself as a notable political figure in Abia State. His public career has particularly focused on community development, human-capital development, infrastructure, youth empowerment, employment, and representation of the people of Ukwa.
