Biography of Prince Dapo Abiodun

Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun, CON is a Nigerian businessman, politician, and public administrator who serves as the Governor of Ogun State. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has been Governor of Ogun State since 29 May 2019. He was re-elected for a second term in 2023.

Dapo Abiodun was born on 29 May 1960 in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State. He was born into the family of Dr. Emmanuel Abiodun and Mrs. Victoria Abiodun, both of whom were teachers.

He received his primary and secondary education in Nigeria before pursuing higher education. He began his tertiary education at the University of Ife, now known as Obafemi Awolowo University, and later attended Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1986.

After completing his studies, Abiodun began his professional career in the United States, where he worked as a Cost Accountant. He later returned to Nigeria and ventured into entrepreneurship and business.

Abiodun built a successful career in the oil and gas sector, becoming involved in several companies and business ventures. He served as the Managing Director of Heyden Petroleum Limited and was involved in other businesses spanning areas such as energy, manufacturing, and investment.

His private-sector experience also led to his involvement in important national institutions. He served as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and was involved in organisations within Nigeria's petroleum and business sectors.

Abiodun entered active politics in the late 1990s and remained involved in political activities over the years. He later became associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerged as the party's candidate for the Ogun State governorship election in 2019.

In the 2019 governorship election, Dapo Abiodun was elected Governor of Ogun State. He was sworn into office on 29 May 2019, succeeding Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

In the 2023 governorship election, Abiodun was re-elected as Governor of Ogun State for a second term. His second-term administration has continued to focus on infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, youth empowerment, investment, and economic development.

In 2026, Abiodun continued to serve as Governor of Ogun State and also served as Chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum, a platform through which governors from Nigeria's southern states engage on issues affecting the region and the country.

Beyond politics and business, Dapo Abiodun has been involved in community development and philanthropic activities. His public career has combined private-sector experience with political and administrative leadership.
