Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is a Nigerian lawyer, entrepreneur, public administrator, and politician who currently serves as the Governor of Enugu State. He assumed office on 29 May 2023 after winning the 2023 governorship election and has since focused on economic transformation, infrastructure development, education reform, and investment promotion in the state.
Born on 17 March 1972 in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Peter Mbah was raised in a family that valued education, discipline, and hard work. He attended Army Children's School, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, and later Owode High School in Ogun State for his early education.
Mbah pursued a career in law, earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of East London in the United Kingdom. He subsequently attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar. He further obtained a Master's degree in Maritime and Commercial Law from Lagos State University, an MBA from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Spain, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. He is also an alumnus of the Chief Executive Programme of Lagos Business School.
Before entering politics, Peter Mbah established himself as a successful entrepreneur in the oil and gas sector. He founded several businesses, including Pinnacle Oil and Gas Limited, where he served as Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, the company became a major player in Nigeria's downstream petroleum industry and developed significant energy infrastructure projects.
Mbah's public service career began in Enugu State, where he served as Chief of Staff and later Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development. During his tenure, he played key roles in fiscal management, economic planning, and policy implementation. His performance earned him recognition as one of Nigeria's outstanding commissioners.
In 2023, he was elected Governor of Enugu State and inaugurated on 29 May 2023. Since assuming office, he has pursued an ambitious development agenda aimed at transforming Enugu into a leading destination for investment, technology, agriculture, and tourism. His administration has prioritized infrastructure expansion, education, healthcare, job creation, and improved governance.
Beyond politics and business, Peter Mbah is known for his philanthropic activities through the Peter Mbah Foundation, which focuses on community development and human capital advancement. He is married to Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, and they are blessed with four children.
Peter Mbah is widely regarded as a visionary leader whose blend of private-sector experience and public-sector expertise continues to shape the development trajectory of Enugu State and contribute to Nigeria's economic growth.
