Senator Osita Ngwu is a Nigerian politician, mechanical engineer, businessman, and public servant who represents Enugu West Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently serves as the Senate Minority Whip. He is also involved in several Senate committees and legislative responsibilities concerning national development.
Senator Osita Ngwu was born on 2 February 1978 in Enugu State, Nigeria. He hails from Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) in 2001. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Roehampton Business School in London in 2016. He is also associated with professional bodies including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Nigerian Mechanical Engineers Association (NMEA), and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
Before entering politics, Osita Ngwu built a professional career in the oil and gas industry, where he gained extensive engineering and management experience. He worked with Baywood Continental Limited between 2007 and 2010, participating in technical and commercial coordination within the oil and gas sector. From 2010 to 2016, he worked with ZB Joint Ventures, where he served in positions including Contract Manager and Project Manager. He later moved into entrepreneurship and business before pursuing a full-time political career.
His political career became more prominent in the years leading up to the 2023 general elections. He contested the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primary for Enugu West and emerged as the party's candidate. In the 2023 election, he was elected to represent Enugu West Senatorial District in the Senate and became a member of the 10th National Assembly.
As a senator, Osita Ngwu has taken part in legislation, constituency representation, and oversight activities. He has sponsored and supported bills dealing with areas including health infrastructure, private investigation, maritime operations, entrepreneurship, public procurement, and agricultural research. His legislative activities reflect his interest in economic development, institutional improvement, infrastructure, and opportunities for young Nigerians.
Senator Ngwu has also held important responsibilities within the Senate. He serves as the Senate Minority Whip and has been involved in the coordination of legislative activities within the opposition caucus. In 2026, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, in addition to his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force. He also participates in several other Senate committees covering areas such as national security, works, health, public accounts, ICT and cybercrimes, oil and gas host communities, and economic affairs.
Beyond his legislative responsibilities, Senator Osita Ngwu has placed considerable emphasis on education and human capital development. In March 2026, he awarded scholarships and bursaries worth more than ₦250 million to students from Enugu West Senatorial District. His constituency initiatives have also included educational support and other empowerment programmes aimed at improving opportunities for young people and communities.
