Biography of Rt. Hon. Oladapo Thomas Karounwi

Rt. Hon. Oladapo Thomas Karounwi is a Nigerian politician and public servant from Ekiti State. He is associated with Efon-Alaaye in Efon Local Government Area and has built a political career spanning the Ekiti State House of Assembly and the state executive council. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is the party’s candidate for the Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.

Karounwi previously served as a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and rose to the position of Deputy Speaker. His legislative experience gave him an understanding of state-level lawmaking and constituency representation. He later served in the Ekiti State Executive Council as Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, where his responsibilities included matters relating to physical planning, urban development and the management of the state’s built environment.

As Commissioner, Karounwi participated in activities focused on urban development and engagement with communities across Ekiti State. He has also maintained grassroots political activities, particularly in Efon and other communities within the federal constituency he seeks to represent.

In 2026, Karounwi emerged as the APC candidate for the Ijero/Ekiti West/Efon Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. His candidacy followed the party's primary process, in which he secured the ticket for the constituency.

Rt. Hon. Oladapo Thomas Karounwi continues to be active in Ekiti State politics, drawing on his previous legislative and executive experience as he prepares to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in 2027.
