Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejiocha is a Nigerian politician, lawyer, and public servant from Abia State. She is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has held important positions in Nigeria's federal government and National Assembly.
Nkeiruka Onyejiocha was born on 23 January 1970 in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. She received her early education in Abia State before proceeding to higher education.
She studied Law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree. She was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar and developed a professional career in legal practice and public service.
Before entering elective politics, Onyejiocha gained experience in law, administration, and public affairs. Her professional background helped prepare her for her later roles in government and legislative affairs.
Her political career became prominent when she was elected to the House of Representatives in 2007, representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State. She was subsequently re-elected for several terms and became one of the longest-serving female members of the House.
During her years in the House of Representatives, Onyejiocha served on several important committees and participated actively in legislative debates, oversight functions, and constituency representation. She also held leadership positions within the House and became known for her involvement in issues concerning education, healthcare, women and youth development, infrastructure, and social welfare.
She was appointed Minister of State for Labour and Employment in 2019, where she served under the federal government and participated in policies concerning employment, labour relations, workers' welfare, and skills development.
Following the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration in 2023, Onyejiocha was appointed Minister of State for Education. In this role, she became involved in federal policies and programmes aimed at improving Nigeria's education sector, strengthening skills development, and expanding opportunities for students and young people.
Onyejiocha has consistently been associated with issues concerning education, human capital development, employment, women empowerment, and youth development. Her career has also included advocacy for greater participation of women in governance and political leadership.
At the constituency level, she has maintained strong connections with the people of Isuikwuato and Umunneochi, supporting initiatives relating to education, infrastructure, healthcare, empowerment, and community development.
Her long career in politics has made her one of the notable female political figures from Abia State. She has served across different levels of public responsibility, from federal legislator to ministerial office.
