Biography of Gov. Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya

Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya is a Nigerian politician, accountant and businessman from Gombe State. Born on 9 October 1961 in Gombe, he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has served as Governor of Gombe State since May 2019. He was re-elected for a second term in 2023. He is also the APC candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.

Inuwa Yahaya began his education at Central Primary School, Gombe, before attending Government Science Secondary School, Gombe. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1983. He also belongs to professional bodies including the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Before entering elective politics, Inuwa built a career in accounting, business and corporate management. He worked with the Bauchi State Investment and Property Development Company and later held management positions in private companies. He served as Managing Director of A.Y.U. Civil Engineering Company and subsequently became involved in other businesses, including the Superior Group and Premium Pension.

His political career became prominent during the administration of Governor Danjuma Goje, when he served in the Gombe State Executive Council as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development. He was involved in financial management, economic planning and budgetary matters during his years in the state government. He later emerged as a founding member of the APC in Gombe State and became the party's candidate for governor in the 2015 election.

In the 2019 governorship election, Inuwa Yahaya contested on the APC platform and defeated the incumbent People's Democratic Party candidate, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo's successor, to become Governor of Gombe State. He was re-elected in 2023, securing a second term in office. His administration has focused on areas including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and economic development.

Ahead of the 2027 general election, Inuwa Yahaya is listed as the APC candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District. His move toward the Senate follows his years of experience in state administration, business and executive governance, and places him in the contest for federal legislative representation of Gombe North.
