Hon. Muftau Egberongbe is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and former federal legislator from Lagos State. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and represents Apapa Federal Constituency as the party’s candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Egberongbe was born on 28 November 1965. He is associated with the Ajiran royal family of Eti-Osa and the Abdullahi Penrumila family of Idumagbo, Lagos Island. He received his primary education at Baptist Primary School, Apapa, and later attended Oriwu College, Ikorodu. He subsequently studied at Lagos State College of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, and Lagos State University (LASU).
Before entering elective politics, Egberongbe worked in both the private sector and public service. He later became involved in community development activities in Apapa, serving as a member of the executive of the Kofo Abayomi Community Development Association and as Financial Secretary of the Community Development Committee of Apapa Local Government.
His political career developed through grassroots involvement in Lagos State. He became actively involved in the APC and eventually contested for the Apapa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Egberongbe was elected to the House of Representatives and served in the 9th National Assembly from 2019 to 2023. During his tenure, he participated in legislative debates, committee activities, oversight functions, and constituency development programmes.
While in the National Assembly, he served on several committees and was involved in matters relating to ports and harbours, naval affairs, education, drainage, infrastructure, and maritime development. His representation of Apapa was particularly connected to issues surrounding the area's major port facilities and the challenges faced by residents and businesses in the constituency.
He also advocated for improvements in the education system, including the need for school curricula to better prepare young people for employment and the changing needs of society. He raised concerns about drainage and flooding, issues that have affected communities within Apapa and other parts of Lagos.
After completing his first term in the House of Representatives, Egberongbe remained active in politics and community affairs. He continued to maintain strong connections with residents and political stakeholders in Apapa.
In 2026, Egberongbe declared his intention to return to the House of Representatives and contest the Apapa Federal Constituency seat under the APC. He subsequently emerged as the party's candidate during the APC's primaries for the 2027 general elections.
His return bid has been supported by his previous experience in the National Assembly and his longstanding involvement in Apapa community affairs. His political priorities include infrastructure, employment, education, economic development, maritime opportunities, security, and improved living conditions for residents.
Through his career as a businessman, community leader, politician, and former federal legislator, Hon. Muftau Egberongbe has established himself as a notable political figure in Lagos State. His public career has particularly focused on grassroots development, maritime affairs, infrastructure, education, employment, and representation of the people of Apapa.
