Biography of DCP Mohammed Ahmed

DCP Mohammed Ahmed (Rtd.), popularly known as Jarman Deba, is a retired Nigerian police officer, public servant, and politician who has become a prominent political figure in Gombe State. A former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmed built his career around public service and law enforcement before entering active politics. In 2026, he emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Gombe Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ahmed hails from the Yamaltu/Deba area of Gombe State and is popularly associated with the title Jarman Deba. His years in the Nigeria Police Force provided him with extensive experience in security, administration, discipline, and public service. He became particularly known within security circles for his involvement in counter-insurgency operations in Maiduguri during the period of the Boko Haram insurgency.

After retiring from the police force, Ahmed remained active in public affairs and community development. His transition from law enforcement into politics was motivated by an interest in contributing to governance and representing the interests of his people. He had previously contested for the House of Representatives in 2003, demonstrating that his interest in elective public office predates his current senatorial ambition.

In May 2026, the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State adopted Mohammed Ahmed as its consensus candidate for Gombe Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections. The district comprises Akko and Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Areas. His emergence was strongly associated with calls from political and community stakeholders for greater representation of the Yamaltu/Deba area.

Ahmed subsequently contested the APC's direct senatorial primary held on 18 May 2026. He defeated the incumbent Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, who had represented Gombe Central since 2011. The returning officer announced that Ahmed received 42,785 votes, while Goje received 10,425 votes.

Following his emergence as the APC candidate, Ahmed described his political ambition as an effort to provide a new direction and stronger representation for the people of Gombe Central. He emphasized the importance of justice, fairness, inclusiveness, and giving all parts of the senatorial district a sense of participation in political leadership.

Beyond politics, Ahmed has continued to demonstrate an interest in security and community development. In April 2026, he spoke at a passing-out event for Gombe forest guards who had undergone training aimed at supporting security efforts in difficult terrains. His participation reflected his continued engagement with security and public-safety issues after his retirement from the police.

DCP Mohammed Ahmed's career therefore represents a transition from law enforcement to political leadership. His experience as a senior police officer, his involvement in security operations, and his grassroots political engagement have positioned him as a notable figure in Gombe State politics. If elected in the 2027 general elections, he will represent Gombe Central in the National Assembly and bring his background in security and public service to legislative responsibilities.
