Borno | House of representatives
Dr. Kaumi Umara Zulum is a Nigerian academic and political aspirant from Borno State. He is the younger brother of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Borno State. Kaumi Zulum holds a PhD and has a professional background outside elective politics.
Kaumi Zulum became politically prominent in 2026 when he entered the contest for the Dikwa/Mafa/Konduga Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. Before this, he had no known record of serving as a member of the National Assembly, making his entry into federal electoral politics a new phase of his public career.
In May 2026, Kaumi Zulum emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Dikwa/Mafa/Konduga Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election. He emerged through a consensus arrangement during the party's primary process after other aspirants stepped down in his favour.
The constituency comprises Dikwa, Mafa and Konduga Local Government Areas in Borno State. The area has experienced significant security and humanitarian challenges over the years, making issues such as reconstruction, security, education, agriculture and community development important areas of public concern.
Kaumi Zulum's candidacy marks his first major attempt at elective political office at the federal level. If elected, he would enter the House of Representatives as a first-time federal legislator representing the three local government areas of Dikwa, Mafa and Konduga.
His political profile has also attracted public attention because of his family relationship with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum. However, his current political role is specifically as the APC candidate for the Dikwa/Mafa/Konduga Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Kaumi Umara Zulum's career therefore represents a transition from an academic and professional background into electoral politics. His emergence as an APC candidate has placed him among the new political figures seeking representation in Borno State's delegation to the next National Assembly.
