Biography of Hon. Julius Gbabojor Pondi

Hon. Julius Gbabojor Pondi is a Nigerian politician and legislator from Delta State. He was born on 19 November 1978 and hails from Arunton-Escravos in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. He represents the Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Pondi obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree and later a Master’s degree. His educational background includes studies at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). His professional background has also included project management before his rise in elective politics.

His political career began at the grassroots level. In 2007, he was elected to represent Ogulagha Ward 19 in the Burutu Legislative House, where he subsequently became Leader of the House. During his time in the local legislature, he was involved in initiatives relating to education and the preservation of the Ijaw language.

In 2015, Pondi was elected to the House of Representatives to represent Burutu Federal Constituency. He was subsequently re-elected in 2019 and again in 2023, making the 10th National Assembly his third term in the federal legislature.

As a federal legislator, Pondi has participated in debates and motions concerning the Niger Delta, environmental protection, oil spills, maritime safety and the protection of communities affected by industrial and security challenges. He has also served on several House committees, including Environment, Gas Resources, Water Resources, Human Rights and Maritime Safety and Education.

His legislative work has included attention to environmental issues in the Niger Delta. In the 10th National Assembly, he has sponsored bills addressing environmental, social and health impact assessments, oil-spill detection and response, national parks and the development of the South-South region.

Julius Gbabojor Pondi has therefore built a political career spanning grassroots local government representation and more than a decade of service in the National Assembly. His public career has been particularly associated with Burutu Federal Constituency and issues affecting the Niger Delta, including environmental protection, maritime affairs and community development.
