He represents the Edo Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. He hails from Ewato in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State and has built a political career through local government administration, state-level public service and national politics.
Ikpea began his political career through grassroots party activities and became involved in Edo State politics in the early 2000s. He served as Chairman of Esan South-East Local Government Area from 2013 to 2016, giving him experience in local administration and community development. He also held other public positions, including roles connected to the Edo State Library Board and Universal Basic Education Board.
He later served as Commissioner for Minerals, Oil and Gas in Edo State under Governor Godwin Obaseki. He resigned from the commissioner position in 2020 amid political differences within the state.
Ikpea subsequently pursued a larger political role at the national level. He contested the APC governorship primary in Edo State in 2024 and remained active within the party. His major political breakthrough came in the 2025 Edo Central Senatorial District bye-election, which followed the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo as Governor of Edo State. Ikpea won the bye-election and received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in August 2025.
He was subsequently sworn in as Senator representing Edo Central and became a member of the 10th National Assembly. In the Senate, his public legislative interests have included infrastructure, education, youth development, healthcare, energy and community development. One of the bills associated with him is the National Centre for Renewable Energy, Ewato, Edo State (Establishment) Bill.
Ahead of the 2027 general election, Ikpea remains the APC candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District. His political career spans grassroots administration, state executive service and federal legislative representation, giving him experience across different levels of government and continued involvement in the political affairs of Edo Central.
