Biography of Senator Ede Dafinone

Senator Ede Omueya Dafinone is a Nigerian chartered accountant, businessman, philanthropist, and politician who represents Delta Central Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Born on 10 April 1962 in Lagos, Nigeria, he is widely recognized for his distinguished career in accounting and finance before transitioning into public service and legislative representation.

Senator Dafinone received his early education at Corona School, Apapa, Lagos, before attending King's College, Lagos. He later studied at Rugby School in Warwickshire, United Kingdom. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics from the University of Manchester in 1983 and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Exeter in 1984. He also completed the Advanced Management Programme at the Lagos Business School. Throughout his professional career, he became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

Before entering politics, Ede Dafinone built an outstanding career in accounting and corporate finance. He began his professional career with Touche Ross & Co. in London, where he worked between 1984 and 1988. In 1989, he joined Crowe Dafinone, one of Nigeria's leading accounting firms, eventually becoming a Partner and later Deputy Managing Partner. He also served on the boards of several companies and public institutions, including NEXIM Bank, NEM Insurance Plc, and the National Film and Video Censors Board, earning recognition for his expertise in auditing, taxation, corporate governance, and financial management.

His political journey began in 1998 as a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State alongside his late father, Chief (Senator) David Omueya Dafinone. He later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014 and contested several elections before successfully winning the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2023 general elections. He was sworn into office on 13 June 2023 as a member of the 10th National Assembly.

As a senator, Dafinone has focused on legislation relating to economic reform, fiscal responsibility, education, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and improved governance. He has sponsored and supported bills aimed at strengthening Nigeria's economy, enhancing public financial management, and promoting sustainable national development. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance and Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, where he contributes to legislative oversight and national policy formulation.

Beyond politics, Senator Ede Dafinone is widely respected for his commitment to professional excellence, philanthropy, and community development. He comes from the renowned Dafinone family, recognized in the Guinness World Records for producing the highest number of members of a single family who qualified as chartered accountants through the ICAEW. He is married to Eyamba Dafinone, and together they continue to support charitable and community development initiatives.
