Biography of Hon. Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga

Hon. Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga is a Nigerian lawyer, journalist and politician from Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. Born in October 1964, he has built a political career spanning local government administration, the National Assembly and the Enugu State Executive Council. He is also known for his background in journalism and public affairs.

Edeoga studied English at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a bachelor's degree. He later studied Law at the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom and obtained postgraduate qualifications in law. He also earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Business School.

His professional career began in journalism, where he worked with several Nigerian newspapers and publications. He later served as Press Secretary to Okwesilieze Nwodo during Nwodo's tenure as Governor of Enugu State. His experience in journalism and government communications contributed to his later legislative and political career.

Edeoga entered grassroots politics and was elected Executive Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area in 1997. In 1999, he was elected to the House of Representatives to represent the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency. During his time in the National Assembly, he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Information and was involved in other legislative responsibilities.

He later served in federal government as a legislative aide and as Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters. At the state level, Edeoga served as Commissioner for Local Government Matters and later Commissioner for Environment in the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. He resigned as Commissioner for Environment in 2022 to pursue the Enugu State governorship.

In the 2023 governorship election, Edeoga contested the Enugu State governorship under the platform of the Labour Party. He polled 157,578 votes in the election. His career has combined journalism, legal practice, legislative service and executive administration across different levels of government.
