Kano State | Senator
Barau Jibrin (born June 19, 1959) is a Nigerian politician and accountant, currently serving as Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and representing Kano North in the 10th National Assembly. He also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, three master’s degrees including an MBA, and earned a Ph.D. in Corporate Entrepreneurship in 2025. Before politics, he founded businesses in manufacturing, insurance, and construction.
Jibrin served in the House of Representatives (1999–2003) and has been a Senator since 2015. Key legislative contributions include championing the North West Development Commission (NWDC), sponsoring bills to establish federal universities and polytechnics, and implementing constituency empowerment programs.
He has received multiple honors, including CFR (2024), CON (2022), and an honorary doctorate from Bayero University, Kano.
