Abba Kabir Yusuf (Abba Gida-Gida), born January 5, 1963, is the Governor of Kano State, serving since May 29, 2023. He was elected under the NNPP in 2023, with his victory affirmed by the Supreme Court in 2024.
In January 2026, he defected to the APC, describing the move as a “homecoming.” This led to cabinet resignations and a major political realignment, with lawmakers and local government leaders joining him. He also signed a ₦1.47 trillion “Budget of Hope” in January 2026, focused on urban renewal and infrastructure.
Yusuf holds an HND in Civil Engineering and a B.Sc. in Business Administration. Before becoming governor, he served as Kano State Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport from 2011 to 2015.
