About Chris Nkwonta

Christian Nkwonta (born November 3, 1960) is a Nigerian politician and businessman representing Ukwa East/Ukwa West in Abia State in the 10th House of Representatives. Originally elected on the PDP platform, he defected to the APC in October 2024 and currently chairs the House Committee on South East Development Commission, focusing on regional infrastructure, environmental issues, and social rights.

Born in Akwete, Abia State, he earned a degree in Maritime Studies (1981) and an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability (2014). Before politics, he worked at the Nigerian Ports Authority and in various administrative roles, including with Liquid Bulk Ltd. He is also noted for philanthropy in education and infrastructure and holds the traditional title “Oke Oji Abia” as well as being a Knight of Saint Christopher.
