Godswill Obot Akpabio (born December 9, 1962) is a Nigerian lawyer and veteran politician, currently serving as the 15th President of the Nigerian Senate and Senator for Akwa Ibom North-West in the 10th National Assembly. Popularly known as โ€œThe Uncommon Transformer,โ€ he is a leading figure in Nigerian politics.

Educated at the University of Calabar, where he earned a law degree, Akpabio worked in education, legal practice, and telecommunications before entering politics. He served as a commissioner in multiple Akwa Ibom State ministries between 2002 and 2006.

Akpabio was Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015, noted for major infrastructure projects and social programs. He later became Senate Minority Leader (2015โ€“2018), defected from the PDP to the APC, and served as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022.

Elected Senate President in June 2023, he has led the passage of numerous bills, with a legislative agenda focused on security, economic reforms, and constitutional review. A Catholic, he is married with five children and holds the national honor of GCON.
