Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, is the Governor of Kebbi State, sworn in on May 29, 2023, after winning the April 2023 gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Born on August 6, 1965, in Birnin Kebbi, he began his career as a teacher, later earning an MBA and a Ph.D. in Education from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Before politics, he was a prominent labor leader, serving as National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Governor Idris’ administration focuses on education reform, agricultural growth, infrastructure, and human capital development. The ₦642.9 billion 2026 “Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment” prioritizes healthcare, road projects, teacher recruitment, welfare programs, and regional security initiatives. He holds the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and serves as Chairman of the North-West Governors’ Forum.
