About Abubakar Sani Bello

Abubakar Sani Bello (born December 17, 1967), popularly known as Lolo, is a Nigerian politician and APC member, currently serving as the Senator for Niger North in the 10th National Assembly. He previously served two terms as Governor of Niger State from 2015 to 2023.

Born into the influential family of Colonel Sani Bello, Bello was educated at St. Louis Primary School, Kano, the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, and earned a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Maiduguri. Before politics, he built a career in banking, hospitality, oil and gas, and industrial ventures, including serving as Managing Director of Broadbank Nigeria Limited.

Politically, he served as Niger State Commissioner for Commerce and Investment in 2009 and, as governor, focused on education reform, rural infrastructure, and civil service reforms. Elected to the Senate in 2023, he is the first former Niger State governor to move directly to the Senate and currently chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is married to Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello and is known for a modest lifestyle despite his privileged background.
