Biography of Benjamin Gugong

Benjamin Kumai Gugong is a Nigerian academic, public administrator and politician from Kaduna State. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is associated with the Kaura Federal Constituency of Kaduna State. Born in 1973, he has built a career spanning university teaching, accounting, public administration and political service.

Gugong has an extensive academic background in accounting and finance. He holds B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. qualifications in Accounting and Finance, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). His academic career was largely built at Kaduna State University, where he rose to the rank of Professor of Accounting and Finance.

With more than two decades of experience in academia, Gugong has been involved in teaching, research and university administration. His professional background in accounting and finance has also provided him with experience in financial management and institutional administration.

Gugong later moved into public service and was appointed Commissioner for Sports Development in Kaduna State by Governor Uba Sani in 2023. In that position, he was involved in the administration and development of sports programmes across the state, including initiatives focused on young people and sporting talent.

His political career has continued alongside his public-service responsibilities. He has been active within the APC and has maintained strong connections with political and community stakeholders in Southern Kaduna. He is also known by traditional titles including Jagaban Kagoro and Dan Iyan Takad.

In the 2026 APC primary for the Kaura Federal Constituency, Benjamin Gugong contested against the incumbent lawmaker, Mathew Donatus. He won the primary with 1,085 votes to 255, securing the APC ticket to contest the constituency in the 2027 general election.

Benjamin Gugong's career combines academic scholarship, financial expertise, public administration and political participation. His transition from university professor and state commissioner to an aspiring federal legislator marks another stage in his public-service career, with his 2027 candidacy focused on representing the people of Kaura at the National Assembly.
