About Asarya Tarpaya (Hon.)

Biography of Hon. Asarya Tarpaya

Hon. Asarya Tarpaya is a Nigerian politician and public administrator from Borno State. He has built a career in the Borno State public service and later became actively involved in partisan politics. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is associated with the Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State.

Tarpaya began his education at Dille Primary School in Askira and later attended Askira-Uba Bama Teachers College. His educational background includes teacher training, after which he developed a career in public administration and government service.

Before entering elective politics, Tarpaya served in the Borno State civil service. He rose to the position of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, where he was involved in government administration and matters relating to local government and traditional institutions.

Tarpaya became more active in politics ahead of the 2023 general election. He initially sought the APC ticket for the Southern Borno Senatorial District but subsequently stepped down from the senatorial contest following consultations with party stakeholders and received support to contest for the Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency.

In the 2023 general election, Tarpaya contested the Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency seat on the APC platform. He polled 25,383 votes but was defeated by Midala Usman Balami of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was declared the winner. The result was subsequently challenged in court by Tarpaya and the APC, but the Court of Appeal upheld Balami's election.

In May 2026, Tarpaya returned to the political contest for the same constituency and won the APC rerun primary election for Askira-Uba/Hawul. He secured 20,172 votes in the primary, emerging as the APC's candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

With his background in public administration and political organisation, Tarpaya has remained active in the political affairs of Southern Borno. His career has combined government service, grassroots political engagement and participation in the electoral process, particularly in the Askira-Uba and Hawul areas.
