Biography of Hon. Aliyu Muktar Betara

Hon. Aliyu Muktar Betara, OON, is a Nigerian politician, accountant, businessman and legislator from Borno State. He was born on 22 November 1966 in Wuyo, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. He represents the Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Betara began his education at Biu Central Primary School before attending Biu Central Junior Day Secondary School and Government Technical Secondary School. He later pursued further education and professional training, building a background in accounting and business.

Before entering politics, Betara established himself in the private sector and became involved in business and community development. His philanthropic activities and support for people in his community reportedly contributed to his decision to enter politics after residents encouraged him to seek elective office.

He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2007 to represent the Biu/Bayo/Shani/Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency. He has subsequently been returned to the National Assembly through successive elections, making him one of the longest-serving members of the House of Representatives from Borno State.

During his time in the National Assembly, Betara has held several important committee positions. He served as Chairman of the House Committee on Defence and later became Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations during the 9th National Assembly. In the 10th Assembly, he serves as Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Capital Territory.

His legislative and constituency activities have included programmes focused on youth and women empowerment, employment, education, infrastructure and economic support. He has also been associated with interventions intended to assist communities affected by the security and humanitarian challenges in Borno State.

Beyond his legislative duties, Betara has maintained a strong presence in community development and philanthropic activities. His constituency work has included support for small businesses, transportation, skills development and other initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents across Biu, Bayo, Shani and Kwaya Kusar.

Aliyu Muktar Betara's career spans business, philanthropy and more than a decade of federal legislative service. His long tenure in the National Assembly and his various committee leadership positions have made him an established political figure in Borno State.
