In 2026, he emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.
Akintomide received his early education at St. Raphael Nursery and Primary School and later attended Independence Grammar School in Ondo, where he was involved in student leadership and academic activities. He proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he obtained his medical degree. He subsequently pursued postgraduate studies in the United States, earning a Master of Public Health from the University of Delaware. His academic background combines clinical medicine with public-health training and population-focused healthcare.
His professional career began in Nigeria, where he worked as a medical doctor at Ondo State Specialist Hospital and was involved in the management of patients receiving HIV/HAART treatment. He also worked with healthcare institutions in Lagos, including Lifeline Children's Hospital and Reddington Multi-Specialist Hospital. He later moved into health-management roles, serving as a Medical Lead and Provider Manager with Swift HMO and as a Regional Medical Case Manager with Redcare HMO, where his responsibilities included coordinating healthcare services across several regions of Nigeria.
Akintomide later expanded his professional experience to the United States, where he became involved in clinical research and healthcare leadership. He has worked on clinical trials and medical research programmes and has held a medical leadership position with O2 Consulting Services in Delaware. He has also served as an adjunct lecturer at Wilmington University, teaching subjects including virology, immunology and biology. His professional experience has included collaboration on research programmes involving major pharmaceutical companies and research into areas such as vaccines, Alzheimer's disease and COVID-19 therapeutics.
Alongside his medical career, Akintomide has been active in community development through the MADE Foundation. His activities have included educational support, scholarships, assistance with UTME/JAMB registration, healthcare outreaches and support for vulnerable residents. He has also been involved in youth development, sports, livelihood initiatives and community infrastructure projects. His community activities have given him a public profile in Ondo and surrounding communities.
Akintomide became increasingly involved in politics and public affairs in Ondo State as the 2027 elections approached. In early 2026, he formally declared his intention to contest the Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. His stated areas of interest included healthcare, education, economic opportunities, infrastructure, agricultural development and community representation.
In the APC's subsequent candidate-selection process, Akintomide emerged as the party's candidate for Ondo East/Ondo West. His emergence followed changes to the party's National Assembly candidate list, with reports confirming that he replaced the previously selected candidate, Abiola Peter Makinde. The final candidate list released for the 2027 House of Representatives election identifies Michael Olamidotun Akintomide as the APC candidate for the constituency.
