About Afuape Afolabi Moruf (Hon.)

Hon. Afuape Afolabi Moruf, popularly known as AFOO, is a Nigerian politician, educationist, businessman and former public administrator from Ogun State. He represents the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Born on 21 May 1967 in Abeokuta, he has combined a career in academics, business, government administration and legislative service.

Afuape obtained his early education in Abeokuta before proceeding to Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic. He later studied Banking and Finance at the University of Lagos, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He subsequently obtained master's degrees in Business Administration and Economics, also from the University of Lagos, giving him an academic background in finance, management and economics.

Before becoming deeply involved in politics, Afuape worked in academia. He was a lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, where he also served as Head of the Marketing Department. His experience as an educator has remained an important part of his public profile, and he has continued to participate in educational programmes and mentorship activities for young people.

Afuape entered grassroots public administration and politics in the 2000s. He served as Secretary of Abeokuta South Local Government from 2004 to 2006 and was subsequently elected to represent the Abeokuta South constituency in the House of Representatives in 2007. During his first period in the National Assembly, he later served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, from 2008 to 2011.

After leaving the National Assembly, Afuape returned to academia before returning to government service. In 2015, he was appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Ogun State, a position he held until 2018. He subsequently served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, giving him experience in the administration of local governments and traditional institutions across the state.

Afuape returned to federal politics in the 2023 general election, when he was elected to represent Abeokuta South in the House of Representatives on the APC platform. His legislative interests have included youth development, education, revenue generation, local government administration and economic development. He has also sponsored legislative proposals covering areas such as agricultural development, cultural industries, the National Hajj Commission and constitutional reform.

Beyond his legislative responsibilities, Afuape has maintained an interest in education and youth development. He has supported scholarship programmes and educational initiatives for students and has personally participated in teaching and mentoring activities. He has also spoken about the need to expand employment opportunities, improve public services and strengthen economic activity within his constituency.

Afuape Afolabi Moruf's career therefore spans academia, local government administration, executive government service, business and federal legislative representation. His experience as a former commissioner and previous member of the House of Representatives has made him a long-standing political figure in Abeokuta South and Ogun State, where he continues to serve as the federal representative for the constituency.
