Biography of Abubakar Shehu Giwa

Abubakar Shehu Giwa is a Nigerian economist, businessman, administrator and politician from Kaduna State. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has built a political career through grassroots mobilisation, local government administration and public service. He is particularly associated with Giwa Local Government Area and the Birnin Gwari/Giwa Federal Constituency.

Giwa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Sector Economy from Kaduna State University. His academic background in economics has supported his professional and administrative work in both public affairs and political organisation.

Before moving into his current federal political role, Abubakar Shehu Giwa served two terms as Executive Chairman of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State. His tenure at the local-government level gave him experience in grassroots administration and direct engagement with communities and local stakeholders.

Giwa has also played an active role in APC political organisation in Giwa Local Government. In 2015, he served as Secretary of the Welfare Committee of the APC Campaign Council in the area. He later served as Chairman of the Giwa Local Government Campaign Council during the 2019 presidential and gubernatorial elections and again during the 2023 general elections.

In January 2025, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani appointed Abubakar Shehu Giwa as Special Adviser on Political Affairs. The appointment reflected his experience in political mobilisation, grassroots organisation and public administration. In the role, he became involved in political coordination and engagement with stakeholders within the state.

Giwa later returned to elective politics and contested the APC primary for the Birnin Gwari/Giwa Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections. In May 2026, he won the APC primary with 2,669 votes, securing the party's ticket to contest the constituency.

Abubakar Shehu Giwa's career combines economics, local government administration, political organisation and public service. His experience as a two-term local government chairman and political adviser has given him a background in grassroots governance, while his 2027 candidacy represents his move toward federal legislative representation for the people of Birnin Gwari and Giwa.
