Biography of Senator Abubakar Sani-Bello

Senator Abubakar Sani-Bello is a Nigerian politician, businessman, and public administrator who represents Niger North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and previously served as the Governor of Niger State from 2015 to 2023.

Abubakar Sani-Bello was born on 17 December 1967. He is the son of Colonel Sani Bello (Rtd.), a former military governor of the old Kano State and a prominent businessman. He received his early education at St. Louis Primary School, Kano, before attending the Nigerian Military School, Zaria.

He later proceeded to the University of Maiduguri, where he studied Economics and obtained his bachelor's degree. His academic background in economics provided him with a foundation for his subsequent career in business, management, government, and public administration.

After completing his education, Sani-Bello gained professional experience in the private sector. He worked in various managerial and business positions and became involved in several areas of investment, including real estate, hospitality, tourism, transportation, and other commercial activities.

His political career became prominent in Niger State, where he became involved in public administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC). In 2009, he was appointed Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Cooperatives in Niger State, giving him experience in investment promotion, commerce, and economic administration.

In the 2015 Niger State governorship election, Abubakar Sani-Bello contested under the APC and won the election. He was sworn in as Governor of Niger State on 29 May 2015.

As governor, his administration focused on security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, investment, and economic development. He also pursued initiatives aimed at improving public services and creating a more attractive environment for investment in Niger State.

Security was a major concern during his tenure because of the challenges affecting several parts of Niger State. His administration worked with security agencies and other stakeholders to strengthen security and protect communities.

In the 2019 governorship election, Sani-Bello was re-elected for a second term. During his second tenure, his administration continued to focus on infrastructure development, agriculture, education, healthcare, security, and economic development.

After completing his second term as governor in May 2023, he contested for the Niger North Senatorial District seat in the 2023 general elections under the APC. He won the election and became a member of the 10th National Assembly.

As a senator, Sani-Bello has participated in legislative debates, committee activities, oversight functions, and policy discussions. He has shown particular interest in foreign affairs, security, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic development.

He has also been involved in constituency representation and initiatives aimed at supporting communities across Niger North. These areas include education, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture, infrastructure, and community development.
