Cross river | House of representatives
Hon. Abang Victor Bisong, popularly known as “Mature,” is a Nigerian politician and public servant from Cross River State. He was born on 11 April 1967 in Bawup, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State. He represents the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bisong began his early education at Army Children School, Obinze, Owerri, and later attended Holy Ghost College, Owerri. He subsequently pursued further education and professional development in business, management and public administration. He is also associated with professional management organisations.
He began his political career in the mid-2000s. In 2005, he was appointed Chief Legislative Aide to then Senate President Ken Nnamani, a position he held until 2007. He subsequently served as Special Assistant to the Senate President on Public Affairs from 2007 to 2016, gaining extensive experience in legislative and political administration.
From 2016 to 2019, Bisong served as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). He later served as Special Adviser to Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade on National Assembly Matters, a position he held from 2021. These roles strengthened his experience in government relations and legislative affairs.
Bisong first contested the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency seat in the 2019 general election as the APC candidate but was unsuccessful. He returned to the contest in 2023 and won the election, defeating the incumbent representative. He subsequently became a member of the 10th National Assembly.
As a federal legislator, Bisong has raised issues affecting communities in Ikom and Boki. His legislative activities have included matters relating to border security, rural infrastructure and the protection of communities in border areas. He has particularly raised concerns over threats to communities in Boki arising from cross-border activities involving Cameroon.
He has also been involved in constituency and community development initiatives, with attention to rural infrastructure, agriculture, education and humanitarian support. His legislative interventions have reflected concerns about the economic and security challenges facing communities in Cross River State.
Abang Victor Bisong's career spans legislative assistance, government administration, political advisory roles and federal legislative representation. His experience in both state and federal political structures has shaped his role as the representative of Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
